CHICAGO - Hy-Vee, Shoppers Drug Mart, BJ‘s Wholesale Club, Supervalu and Sysco were honored here yesterday at the Salute to Excellence Awards Breakfast, part of the 2006 Private Label Manufacturers Association trade show. “Since 1986 PLMA has invited members of the private-label industry to send in their nominations for the retailers and wholesalers that they believe are making significant headway in private-label excellence and achieving success through exceptional store brand programs,” PLMA President Brian Sharoff said. Winners represented the supermarket, drug chain, mass merchandiser, co-op/wholesaler and food-service categories. Hy-Vee‘s purchasing specialist, Steve Jensen, accepted the award on behalf of the retailer. The West Des Moines, Iowa-based 220-store chain offers 3,000 private-label SKUs under the Hy-vee, Midwest Country Fair, Grand Selections and HealthMarket labels. Julie Gallagher
