MILWAUKEE — Samplings of smoothies made with canned fruit and the distribution of a recipe book featuring canned food ingredients are part of Roundy’s “Together We Can” campaign that runs through Oct. 31. Launched in partnership with the American Iron and Steel Institute, the campaign is promoting the safety, convenience and nutritional benefits of canned foods in 155 Pick ’n Save, Copps and Rainbow stores in Wisconsin and Minnesota. During “Together We Can” AISI will donate 10 cents for every five canned food items purchased at Roundy’s stores. It will conclude with a donation of up to $10,000 to a local food bank. “Research shows that canned foods are nutritionally comparable to their cooked fresh and frozen counterparts, and in some cases, they’re even more nutritious,” said Rich Tavoletti, director of AISI’s Container Market Program and executive director of the Canned Food Alliance, in a statement. “Plus, canned foods are convenient, offering a long shelf life that will help Americans keep their pantries stocked with healthy options.”
