MauiRaws logo in a gray background | MauiRawsSugar Foods Corp. has joined with Pu’unene, Hawaii-based Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co., Hawaii’s sole producer of raw and specialty sugar, to launch 100% natural and vegan Maui Brand Raws turbinado and Maui Whites crystallized natural cane sugar in the retail market. Sugar Foods has been supplying turbinado sugar to the restaurant and foodservice channels for more than 20 years, but the partnership marks the first time it will be available in grocery stores in home-use packaging. The sugars are handcrafted in small batches to deliver a consistent quality. To create the distinct luster and depth of flavor in the turbinado sugar, Hawaiian sugar juice is put through a series of kettles and batch cooked for 36 to 48 hours, say company officials. The intricate process allows the natural molasses to be slow boiled into the crystals, leaving them with their naturally rich amber color. “A treasured product for residents and guests of the island of Maui for years, Maui Brand natural cane sugar is the purest and most consistent turbinado product available,” says Marty Wilson, president and CEO of Sugar Foods, which maintains dual headquarters in New York and Los Angeles. “We are thrilled to be able to bring these products to the mainland, and delighted to have developed packaging that makes Maui Brand even more convenient for our consumers in their homes.” Both Maui Brand Raws Turbinado and Maui Brand Whites are available in a 6.17-ounce box of 50 individual-serving sticks with a suggested retail price of $2.25, as well as 12-ounce jars with a suggested retail of $2.25 and 32-ounce jars with a suggested retail of $4.00.
