Dooley currently is president and CEO of the FPA. Manly Molpus, president and CEO, GMA, is planning to retire on Dec. 31, as previously announced. The new organization would be known as GMA/FPA for the first year, and GMA thereafter. The merger is pending board and membership votes.
Hanley Elected Director of UFCW Canada
TORONTO - Wayne Hanley has been elected the new national director of the United Food and Commercial Workers Canada here. Hanley, 48, replaces Michael J. Fraser, who has retired, the UFCW said. Hanley currently serves as president of UFCW Local 175, Mississauga, Ontario. Hanley began his career as a grocery clerk in 1976 in London, Ontario. He was hired as an organizer by Local 175 in 1984, and was elected secretary-treasurer in 1992 and president in 1999, helping Local 175 become North America's single largest local with 50,000 members. Fraser had served as national director since 1999.
Supervalu Names Kemp to Lead Eastern Region
MINNEAPOLIS - Supervalu here has named Kevin Kemp president of Supervalu's Eastern region, succeeding Richard Lane. Kemp, currently vice president of supply chain services for the company, will be responsible for serving grocery retail customers in that region out of the three distribution centers in Perryman, Md., Harrisburg, Pa., and Mechanicsville, Va. The position takes effect this month.
Maine Retailer to Chair AG New England Co-Op
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The board of directors of Associated Grocers of New England has appointed Maine retail grocer Thomas E. Bradbury as chairman of the board. Bradbury is the president of single-store Bradbury Brothers Quick Stop in Kennebunkport, Maine. He succeeds Robert E. Heath of Centre Harbor, N.H., who remains a member of the board. Bradbury has served on the board since 1997.
Pathmark Stores Names Darrington Senior VP
CARTERET, N.J - Pathmark Stores here said Kevin R. Darrington has joined the company as a senior vice president in the financial area. Darrington comes to Pathmark from Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy in Boulder, Colo., where he was chief financial officer. Darrington will work with Joseph W. Adelhardt, currently the senior vice president, controller and principal accounting officer until Adelhardt's retirement in July, when Darrington will assume the position's responsibilities.
