NEW YORK -- Elsie the Cow, created by Borden 60 years ago, was feted in Manhattan's Bryant Park here last week as one of the century's Top 10 icons. It was here during the 1939 World's Fair that the public was first introduced to Elsie. The celebration included a temporary headquarters for the famous cow, complete with an actual barn, white picket fence and hay. Through a 1997 licensing agreement, Dairy Farmers of America acquired the rights to use Elsie's likeness on cheese products manufactured under the Borden name, for DFA subsidiary American Dairy Brands.
