Junquiero to retire from Save Mart
Former A&P exec McGarry named chief administrative officer
The Save Mart Cos. said Monday that its president and COO, Steve Junquiero, would retire effective June 1 after 43 years with the company.
In a related change, the Modesto, Calif.-based retailer said Chris McGarry has been named chief administrative officer and would assume responsibility for Save Mart’s strategy office and its strategic execution, human resources, legal and labor relations.
Junquiero (left) had served as SaveMart’s COO since 2008 and president since 2011. His career with Save Mart began in 1974 as a produce clerk in Tracy, Calif. With his keen eye for merchandising and operational leadership, he quickly worked his way up through the business. In 2007, then owner and CEO Bob Piccinini elevated him to EVP.
“I’m so grateful for the many years of dedication and service that Steve has given to The Save Mart Companies. He’s been an integral part of the company’s success. I wish him all the best during this exciting time in his life,” Nicole Pesco, CEO, said in a statement.
McGarry most recently served as chief administrative officer at A&P, and formerly was assistant general counsel and director of real estate at Grand Union. McGarry also previously served as general counsel for Exel Inc., a leading global logistics services firm.
Save Mart operates 207 traditional and price impact grocery stores in California’s Central Valley under the Save Mart, FoodMaxx, S-Mart and MaxxValue banners.
