VICTORIA, British Columbia — Sobeys said it has appointed Jim Dores as president of its Thrifty Foods division here, succeeding Milford Sorsensen, who will retire effective Feb. 1.

Dores most recently served as senior vice president and general manager of Sobeys’ community banner and wholesale business in Ontario, leading the realignment of the Foodland banner. Sorensen joined Thrifty Foods in 2004 and has more than 40 years of food retail experience in Canada.

“In his time with Thrifty Foods, Milford has played a critical role in driving the growth and development of the Thrifty Foods brands as the leading grocery retailer on Vancouver Island,” Bill McEwan, president and chief executive officer of Stellarton, Nova Scotia-based Sobeys said in a statement. “As Milford gets set to retire, he does so with the respect and gratitude of the entire Sobeys organization.”
