esterfield, Mo., said Fred Martels, senior human resource executive, will leave the company at the end of the year to open People Solution Strategies, a consulting service specializing in assisting organizations in reducing employee turnover and increasing customer satisfaction. Dierbergs will be one of Martels' clients.

In Martels' 27 years with Dierbergs, the company received the Arthur Andersen Enterprise Awards for best practices in motivating and retaining employees and for exceeding customer expectations.

The Gulf Coast Retailers Association, Houston, has named Phil Cohen to a two-year term as president. Cohen is category manager and community relations director for Rice Epicurean Markets, a chain of eight markets in the Houston area featuring fresh produce, gourmet foods and other specialty items.
