AHOLD USA HIRES THREE TO FILL EVP POSITIONS

QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover here, a division of Ahold USA, said last week it has named three people to executive vice president posts. Jim Dwyer, formerly president of Tropicana Products North America, was named executive vice president of strategy and business development, overseeing marketing, corporate brands, store format development, pharmacy, strategic planning and the online delivery service Peapod. He also will be chief business development officer for Ahold USA. Robin Michel, who most recently had been group vice president of procurement and merchandising at Roundy's Supermarkets, was named executive vice president and general manager of Giant-Landover. Roundy's said it expected to name a successor to Michel in the coming weeks. Jeff Slater was named executive vice president of people at Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover. He recently had been a senior human resources executive at Dunkin' Brands.

IGA ADDS CARR AS AREA DIRECTOR FOR WESTERN U.S.

CHICAGO — IGA here said it has named Terry Carr area director for the Western United States. Carr, who spent nearly 20 years with Fleming Cos., will be responsible for supporting IGA expansion in Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington, where he will work with two other area directors: Ricky St. John and Jim Griffin. Those two, along with Shane Ferris and Bill Overman, cover different parts of the U.S. for IGA. At the end of 2007, IGA had 31 retail customers on the West Coast.

RUDDICK'S DICKSON RETIRES BOARD SEAT

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — R. Stewart Dickson, who co-founded Ruddick Corp. with his brother 40 years ago, announced his retirement from the board of directors at the company's annual meeting here. Edwin Borden Jr., who served on the board since 1981, also announced his retirement, while William C. Warden Jr., a former executive at the Lowe's home improvement chain, was newly elected to the board, the company said. Dickson served as chairman for Ruddick, which owns the Harris Teeter supermarket banner, for 26 years. He retired as an executive officer of the company in 2002 but continued to serve on the board. Ruddick shareholders approved a proposal to reduce the number of directors from 12 to 11, and also approved a plan to elect directors annually. John P. Dernham Cato and Isaiah Tidwell were reelected to the board, Ruddick added.

CHANDLER, Ariz. — Bashas' here said last week it has named Gregg Tucek vice president of legal affairs for human resources. He joins the company from Sherman & Howard, and practices exclusively in the area of traditional labor and employment. Bashas' said Tucek has a successful track record in arbitrating matters related to collective bargaining agreements and has been the lead counsel in unfair labor practice's trials before the National Labor Relations Board. He will work closely with the company's labor relations team at Steptoe & Johnson. “Gregg has worked with our team as an outside consultant for some time,” said Edward N. Basha III, senior vice president of legal and financial affairs for the company.

EMORE NAMED REAL ESTATE VP AT REDNER'S

READING, Pa. — Redner's Markets here has promoted Douglas W. Emore to vice president of its maintenance/construction and real estate department. He reports to Richard Redner, chief executive officer. Emore will oversee maintenance of Redner's 39 Warehouse Market and Quick Shoppe stores in Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland and will manage new store and remodeling projects, as well as real estate and property management functions.
