MATTHEWS, N.C. — Family Dollar Stores here said Monday that it has named Paul White executive vice president and chief merchandising officer.

White, who reports to Michael Bloom, president and chief operating officer, joined the dollar-store chain earlier this year as senior vice president of apparel, home and seasonal. His past experience includes positions with Goody’s, where he was president and chief executive officer, Shopko Stores and The May Department Stores Co.

“Through Paul’s leadership and strategic vision, Family Dollar has created a compelling mix of discretionary merchandise which has led to a more fun place to shop for our customers,” said Bloom in a statement. “Paul’s promotion will help us continue to broaden our appeal and deliver greater value to our customers.”
