ARLINGTON, Va. — Food Marketing Institute here said Tuesday it has named Robert Rosado director of government relations, focusing on legislation that impacts supermarkets in the areas of food safety, health care, food deserts and the 2012 Farm Bill.

Rosado joins FMI from the Biotechnology Industry Organization where he was policy manager for the food and agriculture issues. Before joining BIO, he was director of legislative and political affairs for the Foreign Agriculture Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. While at USDA, Rosado managed legislative and communications activities for the agency and USDA on international issues, including the Farm Bill, trade, foreign market development and food assistance issues. He spent five years as senior director of legislative affairs at the American Meat Institute.

"Rob has a broad range of expertise in food and agriculture that will be very helpful to FMI and its members. His background also includes working with federal agencies on many issues related to the food retail industry," said Leslie G. Sarasin, FMI president and chief executive officer, in a prepared statement.
