WASHINGTON — John Motley, the former senior vice president of public affairs at Food Marketing Institute, has partnered with Giant of Landover veteran Barry Scher and former National Cattlemen's Beef Association Vice President of Government Affairs Jay Truitt to form a new government and public relations firm. Policy Solutions, based here, will focus on food, pharmacy and other legislative and regulatory areas. In a prepared statement, Motley said the new firm will be “bipartisan with a strong practice in food and pharmacy. … Policy Solution's principals have extensive experience working with both Congress and the executive branch and on a wide range of policy issues, from food safety to energy and from taxes to health care.” Motley, who left FMI at the end of last year, previously had worked for the National Retail Federation and the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Scher retired from Giant and its parent company, Ahold USA, two years ago after a 42-year career with the chain, most recently as vice president of industry affairs for both Ahold USA and Giant of Landover. Truitt has 20-plus years of experience in the industry and was executive vice president of the Missouri Cattlemen's Association before joining NCBA.
