Derek Mansfield is joining Relay Foods as its chief merchandising officer, the Charlottesville, Va.-based Internet grocer said.

Mansfield will be accountable for all merchandising-related areas including gross margins, product selection, visual merchandising, pricing and vendor partner relations.

Prior to joining Relay, Masfield was a partner at The Boston Consulting Group, where he advised the firm’s retail clients on strategy and operations. While at BCG, Derek led multiple engagements specifically advising grocers on how to improve merchandising through rigorous analytical approaches and disciplined execution.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Derek on board,” Zach Buckner, Relay Foods’ CEO, said in a statement. “Based on his decade-long experience advising major players in the grocery industry, he brings critical knowledge to our executive team at a key moment for Relay. I am confident that he will help us continue to improve the products, pricing, and service we offer to our customers while deepening our commitment to working with the local producers in our communities.”
