Sedlar, a chef by training, had joined the local independent as president in 2005. She has worked in retail food stores for more than 20 years, the company said.

"Lisa has done a fantastic job in her role as president and her promotion to CEO is an official acknowledgment of the leadership role she already plays in the company and the community," said Rohter, chairman of New Seasons, in a prepared statement.

New Seasons also said that Rohter would retire as chairman in January. The company said it expects to name a replacement in 2011.
