LANHAM, Md. — Tim Lowe has been appointed as the new president of Shoppers Food & Pharmacy here, its parent company, Supervalu, said Monday.

Lowe, a former senior vice president of Shoppers, will assume his new role Oct. 11. He succeeds Dick Bergman, who Supervalu said last month had retired effective Oct. 1.

“Tim is an experienced leader at Shoppers and is well positioned to grow the organization in the marketplace,” Brian Huff, senior vice president, specialty retail, for Supervalu, said in a statement.

Lowe was named senior vice president of operations for Shoppers in 2009, and is returning to the company after a brief tenure at Burlington Coat Factory.

Lowe’s retail grocery experience also includes five years with Meijer, where he was promoted to the role of vice president of general merchandise for retail stores, and seven years with Wal-Mart Stores, where his most recent position was regional manager of retail stores.
