The Fresh Market announced the election of Michael D. Casey, CEO and a director of Carter’s, and Robert K. Shearer, former CFO of V.F. Corp., as independent directors.

Casey has been CEO of children’s apparel company Carter’s since 2008, and chairman of its board since 2009. Shearer recently retired from V.F. Corp., whose brands include The North Face, Vans, Timberland and Wrangler.

These two additions to the Greensboro, N.C., company’s board bring the total to nine directors, eight of whom are independent directors.

“We are pleased to welcome Mike and Bob, two experienced leaders of high profile consumer growth and branded companies, to our Board of Directors,” Ray Berry, chairman of the board, said in a press release.

“We believe they will bring valuable perspectives to the Board, and we look forward to leveraging their knowledge and insight as The Fresh Market moves towards the next level of growth and profitability.”
