WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Tops Friendly Markets said last week it has promoted Jim DiMartino to senior manager of regulatory and environmental services, a new position at the company. In his new role, DiMartino, who has been with Tops for 28 years, is a liaison between Tops and regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and city and county health departments. He is also responsible for daily monitoring of sanitation and housekeeping standards. DiMartino most recently was the manager of regulatory and environmental services at Tops and previously was a food safety inspector.
BROWN IN NEW POST AT PRICE CHOPPER
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Price Chopper Supermarkets announced last week that Janice Brown has been promoted to zone director, reporting directly to Jody Plonski, regional vice president. In this newly created position, Brown will oversee stores operating in Pennsylvania and downstate New York. She joined Price Chopper in 1992, bringing store management experience with Kroger, Giant Foods and Wegmans. Her most recent position at Price Chopper was that of store manager in Middletown, N.Y.
BUSHWAY IS OTA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
GREENFIELD, Mass. — The Organic Trade Association here has appointed Christine Bushway as its new executive director, making her the third executive director in the 23-year history of the association. Bushway has held several leadership positions in the food and agriculture industries, including chief executive officer of an agricultural trade association and chief Washington lobbyist representing the egg industry. She has also been a consultant to several agriculture- and food-industry groups. Most recently she was director of state programs for the American Egg Board to enhance national promotion of the Incredible Edible Egg consumer awareness campaign.
NARMS NAMES FANNING AS DIRECTOR
STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The National Association for Retail Marketing Services has named Charles Fanning, vice president of the MSO Division, Synergy Systems, Richmond, Va., to fulfill an unexpired term on its board of directors. In making the nomination, NARMS Chairman Don Koller of Lawrence Merchandising Services, Plymouth, Minn., returns Fanning to the board, where he had previously served three years. The vacant seat resulted from the resignation earlier this month due to a position change by Tom Caddell, who now continues to provide NARMS assistance in his new role at Chuck Latham Associates, assisting in the organizing of the Organic/Natural Product Panel scheduled for the NARMS Spring Conference, April 4-7, 2009, in Colorado Springs.
