WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Tops Friendly Markets here has named William R. Mills senior vice president, effective Nov. 1, and said he will succeed Kevin Darrington as chief financial officer, effective Dec. 1.

Darrington, who joined Tops as CFO in 2008, will remain as chief operating officer, a role he had taken on in addition to his duties as CFO earlier this year.

Mills was formerly senior vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer for Weis Markets, Sunbury, Pa., from 1992 to 2009. He has since been a private consultant. At Tops, he will report to Frank Curci, president and chief executive officer.

Separately, Tops said Patrick Curran is leaving the company as senior vice president, sales and marketing, effective Dec. 31.

The executive changes were revealed in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Tops, with 132 supermarkets in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania, is privately owned but files certain financial documents because of a debt offering earlier this year.
