Van Helden to Succeed Lee as Stater President, COO

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stater Bros. Markets here said Peter Van Helden has been named president and chief operating officer, effective June 1. He succeeds Jim Lee, who is retiring.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stater Bros. Markets here said Peter Van Helden has been named president and chief operating officer, effective June 1.  He succeeds Jim Lee, who is retiring.

Van Helden has been in the industry 36 years, most recently as executive vice president, retail operations, for Supervalu, Minneapolis.  He has also served as president and chief executive officer of Albertsons in Southern California and previously as president of Jewel-Osco while both were owned by Supervalu following a lengthy career with the original Albertsons chain.

Lee joined Stater in 2002 as group vice president, retail operations, and was subsequently executive vice president, retail operations and administration, before being named president and COO in mid-2006.  Earlier in his career, he was president and COO of Wild Oats Markets after spending 25 years with Ralphs Grocery Co. in Southern California.
