Wakefern Executive Joins GS1 US Board of Governors

Joe Sheridan of Wakefern Food Corp. and Mark Walchirk of McKesson Corporation have been appointed to the GS1 US Board of Governors, the organization announced today. GS1 US is a not-for-profit organization that develops supply-chain standards, solutions and services for 25 industries.


Sheridan is Executive Vice President for Wakefern, the United States' largest retailerowned cooperative, whose 47 members operate more than 230 supermarkets under the ShopRite banner. He oversees corporate merchandising, advertising, marketing, finance, technology, quality assurance, communications, warehousing, transportation, and all of Wakefern's product divisions. Sheridan serves on the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee for the National Grocers Association, as well as on the Board of Directors, Wholesale Advisory Board, and Executive Committee for the Food Marketing Institute. He was named 2009 Marketer of the Year by Supermarket News.

Walchirk is President of McKesson's Specialty Care Solutions, a division of the leading healthcare-services and information-technology company McKesson Corporation. With more than 23 years of experience in healthcare, Walchirk brings significant leadership in supply-chain operations, pharmaceutical and healthcare-services sales, and healthcare information technology to the GS1 US board. Through his leadership positions within McKesson, Baxter Healthcare, Allegiance Healthcare and Encompass Group, Walchirk has driven significant supply-chain innovations on behalf of his customers.

The GS1 US Board of Governors includes executives from leading corporations such as Coca-Cola North America; Johnson & Johnson; Kraft Foods, Inc.; the Kroger Co.; the Premier healthcare alliance; Procter & Gamble; Publix Super Markets; Sam's Club; The J.M. Smucker Company; Sysco Corporation; and Wegmans Food Markets, in addition to the Food Marketing Institute and Grocery Manufacturers of America.
