WinCo Foods tabs Grant Haag as its next CEO
Company veteran to serve as president before succeeding Steven Goddard

WinCo Foods has promoted Grant Haag to president as a stepping stone to becoming the supermarket retailer’s chief executive officer.
WinCo said yesterday that Haag, formerly senior vice president of department operations, will serve as president for the next year before taking the CEO reins from Steven Goddard, who is stepping down after having been president and CEO for more than a decade.
"We firmly believe that Grant is the right choice to lead the company into the future," Goddard said in a statement.
The board of directors selected Haag (left) for the leadership role after “an intensive two-year process to identify the right person,” according to WinCo. He was chosen from three final candidates, the Boise, Idaho-based company said.
Before his appointment as president, Haag had served as senior vice president of department operations since September 2015. His 34-year career at WinCo included roles as produce department manager, Northwest division/Oregon produce supervisor, vice president of produce operations and district manager for the Northwest division. He also serves on the board of the WinCo Foods Foundation.
Goddard has been president of WinCo Foods since October 2006 and CEO since January 2007. Prior to that, he served as chief operating officer and executive vice president of retail operations. He joined WinCo in 1998 as vice president of produce after more than 20 years at Safeway and Scrivner/Food 4 Less. He started his retail grocery career in 1968 at The Kroger Co.
Overall, WinCo operates 119 stores in Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington under the WinCo Foods and Waremart by WinCo banners.
