AMSTERDAM -- Ahold here is considering expanding into Denmark through an acquisition, according to European press reports yesterday. The reports cite Anders Moberg, chief executive officer, as saying that the Danish market “is very interesting” and that it would consider making a substantial acquisition there. “We are interested in buying an established chain or, alternatively, entering a very close collaboration,” he was quoted as saying. The Dansk Supermarked chain was reported to be one possible acquisition target. Neither Ahold nor Dansk could be reached for comment yesterday. Ahold currently is seeking to sell its U.S. Foodservice distribution arm and its Tops supermarket chain in the U.S.
