QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop and parent company Ahold USA have contributed $500,000 to The One Fund Boston, the retailer here said Thursday.

One Fund Boston was created this week by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick to provide aid for the victims of the bombing at the Boston Marathon earlier this week.

“Words cannot express the tragedy that took place at the Boston Marathon. We mourn with all of those who were affected. Our thoughts and prayers are with the city of Boston and our local and global communities as the details of this tragic event continue to unfold,” Joe Kelley, president, Stop & Shop New England Division, said in a statement. “Stop & Shop is here for our associates, our communities, and to support the local, state, and federal responders working around the clock. We’re proud to see the spirit of people coming together in support of the victims and for the great city of Boston. We’re glad to support The One Fund Boston to help families and the city recover.”
