BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons here marked the opening Wednesday of a remodeled store on the site of the original store opened in 1939 by company founder Joe Albertson.

"This is home to us," Susan Morris, president of the chain's Intermountain division, was quoted by local media outlet KTVB.com as saying at the opening. It was one of three local remodeled locations that opened the same day.

Bob Miller, chief executive officer of the chain — which was split in 2006 and reunited earlier this year — was quoted as saying Albertsons is returning to a more localized focus, with lower prices and better perishables.

"We have a long way to go," he said. "We bought these [Idaho] stores in March. We would not say they were first-class grocery stores, but thanks to all of our hard-working associates, we're getting much better every day. We want to earn the customers' business and work hard at it, so we're doing that."
