Aldi Opens Harlem Location

NEW YORK — Discount retailer Aldi opened its first store in Manhattan on Monday.

The store at the East River Plaza in East Harlem is the third in New York City for the Batavia, Ill.-based limited-assortment grocery retailer. It shares the plaza with a Target store and a Costco, and is only blocks from the landmark Pathmark store said to have sparked big-box store development in Harlem when it opened in 1999.

Aldi previously had opened stores in the New York City boroughs of Queens and the Bronx.
