BOULDER, Colo. — Alfalfa’s Market here said last week that it has appointed Layne Lieberman to the newly created position of vice president of marketing and consumer relations.

Lieberman, a registered dietitian, brings more than 25 years of experience to Alfalfa’s in marketing and educating the public about healthy, local and organic foods in the retail food environment.

“At Alfalfa’s, it is our goal to be a resource to our community for solutions that meet their individual health, wellness and culinary needs,” Mark Retzloff, founder and President of Alfalfa’s, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have someone with Layne’s knowledge and deep experience on board. As a registered dietitian and established nutrition industry expert, she will provide educational opportunities and guidance to help our consumers meet their healthy living goals.”

Lieberman spent 20 years as the director of nutrition King Kullen Grocery Co., Bethpage, N.Y. Her work at King Kullen boosted that company’s natural and organic foods offering, and she helped to “create the vision” of Wild By Nature Market, a subsidiary of King Kullen, according to Alfalfa’s.

Prior to joining the retail food industry, Lieberman founded the Nutrition Learning Centers, which allowed consumers to shop for natural foods, learn about healthy cooking and receive nutritional counseling all under the same roof.
