BETHESDA, Md. — Balducci's, a chain of upscale food stores based here, has introduced a new loyalty program called Balducci's Rewards.

Customers who spend $250 using the new Rewards card receive a certificate for $10 off future purchases.

“Rather than design a program based on discounts, we wanted to give our customers a great reason for shopping our store on a regular basis,” Nan Cooper, vice president of marketing, told SN.

Eventually, the cards will also allow shoppers to receive “private discounts” on certain items.

“In the coming months, customers on our existing mailing list will no longer receive our private discounts and incentives, unless they are part of our loyalty card program,” Cooper said. “So, we're working hard to raise awareness and register as many customers as possible for this new program.”

She said the company, which operates 10 stores in the Northeast, was “extremely pleased with the response rate” in the first week of the program.
