GREENVILLE, N.C. — Bi-Lo broke ground Thursday on a new 48,500-square-foot Super Bi-Lo store in Chattanooga, Tenn., set to open in early 2008, the retailer here said. The $9 million store is part of a plan to invest about $40 million in the Chattanooga region over the next two years, Brian Hotarek, chief executive officer, said in a statement. In addition to the new store being built, Bi-Lo is expected to begin construction soon on an $11 million, 57,000-square-foot Super Bi-Lo store and plans to convert four area Bi-Lo stores into Super Bi-Lo locations. Super Bi-Lo stores include expanded selections of grocery and nonfood items and prepared foods making for a “one-stop” shopping experience, Bi-Lo officials said.
