NATICK, Mass. — BJ’s Wholesale Club here is seeking a chief operating officer to groom for its top spot, the company told analysts in a meeting Tuesday. Herb Zarkin, BJ’s current chief executive officer, came out of retirement a year ago to replace Mike Wedge as CEO on an interim basis after Wedge resigned. BJ’s will focus on driving sales in the perishables area, particularly fresh and organic foods, company officials added, according to a report Tuesday by Deborah Weinswig, an analyst with Citibank, New York. The company is also continuing to reduce SKU counts to make the stores more cohesive and relevant, the report said.
