SALISBURY, N.C. — Bottom Dollar Food’s effort to expand to western Pennsylvania may also take the discounter into Ohio, local reports said.

Officials in the city of Youngstown, Ohio, last week voted to approve a land sale that would allow Bottom Dollar to build a store there, according to a report in the Youngstown Business Journal. The chain is already at work on a different site in Youngstown, the report added.

Numerous local reports since late last year indicate Bottom Dollar, which debuted in eastern Pennsylvania last year, was expanding to the Pittsburgh market. The company has yet to make an official announcement.

“We are exploring several markets for potential growth, including the Pittsburgh area; however, for competitive reasons, we are not elaborating further at this time,” Tenisha K. Waldo, a spokeswoman for Bottom Dollar, told SN last week.
