PARIS — Carrefour here said Monday it would acquire Brazilian hypermarket chain Atacadao for about $1.2 billion. Atacadao had annual sales of about $2 billion in 2006. It strengthens Carrefour’s market share particularly in Sao Paulo, where Atacadao operates half of its 34 stores. Carrefour also operates supermarkets (Carrefour Bairro) and a discount banner (Dia) in Brazil.
