ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Coborn's here said it plans to open two new stores in western North Dakota this week under the Cash Wise Foods banner — one in Waterford City and one in Williston.

The company said it expects to open four additional stores in North Dakota, including stores built on the sites of existing markets, in Minot, Stanley and Tioga this year and a store in Dickinson scheduled to open next year.

The growth plans are part of an aggressive expansion effort in the Bakken area of western North Dakota where the economy is booming from oil exploration.

The Cash Wise in Waterford City will be 47,000 square feet, with an adjacent 5,000-square-foot Cash Wise Liquor. The company said the store will be five times larger than the Mike's Super Valu that formerly occupied the site, which Coborn's acquired last December.

The supermarket and liquor store in Williston was a former Economart — one of four stores Coborn's acquired in April 2012 as part of a joint venture with JK Foods, Williston. The sites in Minot and Stanley were part of that acquisition.
