The 52,242-square-foot store will be located one block from a popular Whole Foods store, in a largely upper-income residential area. An Amish Market, another upscale New Food chain, is also located about a block away.

The store is expected to open in fall 2014. It will be the first Fairway location in Lower Manhattan and the 16th Fairway food store in the tri-state New York, New Jersey and Connecticut region.

Fairway, which had an initial public offering earlier this year, operates high-volume speciality stores.
