Former Fleming Executive May Resigns From Payless
William E. May, a former executive of grocery wholesalers Nash Finch and Fleming Cos. who was named chief operating officer at Payless ShoeSource last month, resigned from Payless, the company said in a government filing Tuesday.

TOPEKA, Kan. — William E. May, a former executive of grocery wholesalers Nash Finch and Fleming Cos. who was named chief operating officer at Payless ShoeSource here last month, resigned from Payless, the company said in a government filing Tuesday. May assumed duties as COO and senior vice president, operations, for Payless on April 23. The company said he resigned for “personal reasons.” Payless last week announced it would buy rival Stride Rite for $800 million and re-name itself Collective Brands. May most recently served as senior vice president at Tween Brands. Prior to that, he served as chief executive officer for Fleming’s wholesale division, and as a COO for Nash Finch.
