Because he had worked diligently on a new Stater Bros. store here that opened three days before he died, the company said it is dedicating the store in Slaton's honor.

According to Jack Brown, chairman and chief executive officer, "His contributions to our company were immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed."

Slaton is survived by his wife, Cheryl, two grown children, two sisters and his parents.
