Giant Eagle Refunds Double-Billed Shoppers

Giant Eagle said the majority of the several thousand customers whose credit and debit cards were double charged on Dec. 14 due to a malfunctioning third-party point-of-sale processor were fully refunded last week.

PITTSBURGH — Giant Eagle here said the majority of the several thousand customers whose credit and debit cards were double charged on Dec. 14 due to a malfunctioning third-party point-of-sale processor were fully refunded last week. Company spokesman Dan Donovan said the timing as to when the credits will show up on affected customers’ respective bank accounts will vary by financial institution. He told SN this was the first time to his knowledge that such an incident had occurred. The technical breakdown affected shoppers at Giant Eagle and GetGo stores across all of the retailer’s markets.
