GMDC Names Spartan’s Bakewell to Board of Directors

COLORADO SPRINGS — The Global Market Development Center here, also known as GMDC, has named Karen Bakewell, director of GM/HBC merchandising with Spartan Stores, Grand Rapids, Mich., to its board of directors. Bakewell has served for two years on GMDC’s membership advisory board. “Karen brings an impressive general merchandise and health-beauty-wellness level of experience at not only the wholesale level but the retail level as well,” said David McConnell, GMDC president and chief executive officer. “She will provide GMDC with additional thought leadership in both areas.” Prior to joining Spartan in 2004, Bakewell worked for Kroger Co., Cincinnati, and before that in an independent meat market.
