Hy-Vee returns employee benefit
Retailer says fraud was the reason a 10% discount was paused
Citing fraud as the reason it suspended its employee discount program three months ago, Hy-Vee has announced the return of the benefit.
The West Des Moines-based grocer’s discount program included a 10% employee savings on the purchase of groceries and food service.
“We made a commitment to our employees to provide them a stronger and secure benefit, and we followed through on that commitment,” Hy-Vee said in an emailed statement.
The program was launched back in 2019 with specific guidelines that would allow employees and one member of their household to utilize the 10% discount. However, Hy-Vee discovered users were utilizing the employee benefit who were not living in the same household or living in other cities. The discrepancies found were significant enough to signal a much broader issue that needed to be addressed immediately.
Hy-Vee workers also enjoy other benefits like weekly pay; mental health assistance; a 401(k) plan with a matching contribution; holiday pay for retail employees; part-time insurance with an employer contribution based on eligibility; career development opportunities through Hy-Vee University; tuition assistance; and childcare assistance.
