ARLINGTON, Va. — The National Grocers Association here said Monday that Mike Jackson has decided not to accept the position of NGA president and chief executive officer. He cited “personal reasons,” NGA said.
Jackson, the former president and chief operating officer of Minneapolis-based Supervalu, was designated in mid-December to succeed Thomas K. Zaucha, who plans to retire in June after 29 years at the head of NGA. Chris Coborn, chairman of Coborn's, St. Cloud, Minn., and NGA chairman, said the association expects to select a successor to Zaucha "in the near future.”
“Fortunately, the selection committee, in conjunction with a search firm, conducted an exhaustive search that identified a number of very qualified professionals both inside the association and outside the industry. The committee will now re-convene [to select] a successor,” Coborn said.
Industry sources told SN the search committee originally interviewed seven candidates before narrowing the list to four, each of whom was asked to present a white paper on his vision for NGA, followed by an interview with the committee — a process that ended up with Jackson as the winner.
