ITASCA Ill. — Jewel-Osco, the Chicago-are division of New Albertsons Inc., said it expects to reopen the four Dominick's it acquired from Safeway in mid-January.
NAI acquired the four stores in late October and is continuing to operate them under the Dominick's banner until next month. When they are rebannered, the four stores will feature new signage "and other noticeable changes," a chain spokeswoman told SN, though more complete remodeling efforts will occur over the subsequent months, she added.

Jewel-Osco was scheduled to hold the grand reopenings Tuesday for 18 units that have been undergoing remodeling activity over the past six months. According to the company, virtually every department received updates, encompassing new self-service salad bars, new juice bars, expanded cut-fruit sections and freshly made guacamole in the produce departments; new bakery cases with offering new varieties; expanded prepared hot and cold food sections, including Dietz & Watson sandwiches and fresh wraps; and, in the meat departments, hand-trimmed selections, natural and antibiotic-free chicken and a live lobster tank.
