Loblaw Strike Ends With New Contract

CALGARY, Alberta — Members of United Food & Commercial Workers Canada Local 401 ended their three-day strike against Loblaw Cos. on Wednesday following ratification of a new contract.

As previously reported, workers at about 55 Real Canadian Superstore and Liquorstore locations across Alberta went on strike on Sunday, saying that they wanted a contract that was being negotiated to allow for more hours for part-timers.

Union representatives reached a tentative agreement with the company on Monday, and workers ratified the new pact in voting on Tuesday.

Loblaw workers represented by UFCW local 1400 in Saskatchewan are scheduled to vote on a tentative labor agreement next week, and members of UFCW local 832 in Manitoba will vote the week of Oct. 21.
