The company has began advertising for store manager and assistant manager roles for a unit to open in the Northern Virginia town of Woodbridge. Company officials were not immediately available to say when the store would open.

In a Dec. 9 presentation at the ICSC New York National Conference, Lisa Ham, senior real estate representative for Wakefern, said Wakefern had plans to introduce PriceRite in New Jersey and in Virginia for the first time next year. All of PriceRite’s 55 stores are corporate owned, although there have been unconfirmed reports that the cooperative would allow its members to operate the format concurrent with the banner’s arrival in New Jersey.

Ham said Wakefern was seeking stores of approximately 39,000 square feet for PriceRite and that it preferred “second generation” sites in locations where the median household income does not exceed the low $60,000s. Its stores see an average of 20,000 to 25,000 customer visits a week.

Richard Matwes, also a senior real estate representative for Wakefern, said ShopRite stores see an average of 30,000 to 35,000 customer visits per week. The company was seeking 65,000-square-foot spaces in markets with 40,000 to 60,000 residents in any income level in a three- to five-mile radius.
