CHARLOTTE — Ruddick Corp., parent of the Harris Teeter chain, is asking shareholders to approve the company's request to change its name to Harris Teeter Supermarkets Inc. The change would better describe the company's operating activities and strategic focus following the divestiture of the textile business it previously owned, the company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The stock symbol would change from RDK to HTSI. Shareholders will vote on the name change at Ruddick's annual meeting Feb. 16 in Charlotte.
