CARLISLE, Pa. -- Tony Schiano, who has been president and chief executive of Giant of Carlisle since 1997 and has been with Ahold-owned chains for 34 years, said this week that he plans to retire effective March 15. Carl Schlicker, currently executive vice president, sales and marketing, has been named to succeed him, effective Feb. 1. Schiano, who worked for several years at Stop & Shop and Bi-Lo before joining Giant-Carlisle, doubled the store count to 143 and tripled sales volume in the last 10 years, the company said. His successor, Schickler, is a 20-year veteran of Ahold-owned chains who had previous experience at Acme and Pathmark before joining First National Supermarkets in 1986. He will report directly to Larry Benjamin, chief operating officer, Ahold U.S. Retail.
