MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu here yesterday said it had received the top rating from the Human Rights Campaign’s sixth annual Corporate Equality Index, which rates companies based on their treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors. Supervalu said it was one of 195 major U.S. companies that scored a “100” on the index this year and was the first supermarket retailer to achieve that score. The company said it has implemented several diversity initiatives, including creating a diversity and inclusion department, naming a vice president of diversity, launching a corporate diversity council, adding employee-led “affinity groups,” increasing education and awareness-building, and creating a supplier diversity department.
