EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Southern California consumers will be the first to see what Tesco has to offer when the United Kingdom-based chain opens its first six U.S. stores there on Nov. 8. The company said yesterday the six Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets will be spread over Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties — though it did not indicate specific locations — with additional stores scheduled to open by the end of the year in San Diego, Phoenix and Las Vegas. Each store will be approximately 10,000 square feet, with a range of private-label and national-brand products and a selection of fresh prepared meals. The company said in June it expects to have 30 stores in operation by Christmas and 20 more before the end of its fiscal year in late February; it also said it had 100 more locations in its development pipeline.
