WASHINGTON — The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union said Friday it has released a smartphone app that allows shoppers in the U.S. and Canada to find their nearest union grocery store.

Through its “Shop Union” feature, the app — available here — provides driving directions to stores that employ UFCW workers. It is the first smartphone app released by the union, which represents about 1.3 million workers.

In addition to the store-locator feature, the app also provides updates from UFCW members, breaking news, original video and “information about how to take action for working families,” the UFCW said.
