WESTBURY, N.Y. — United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1500 here said Tuesday that it had filed a complaint with New York State Department of Labor alleging that A&P violated state labor law when closing stores recently.

The union did not detail the violations, but said the Montvale, N.J.-based retailer violated the W.A.R.N. act, which governs procedures for companies cutting large amounts of jobs. Local 1500 represented workers at several Pathmark stores in a recent round of store closings as part of A&P's restructuring under Chapter 11. An A&P spokesman had no immediate comment.
