MINEOLA, N.Y. — United Food and Commercial Workers Local 342 postponed a strike vote at Stop & Shop scheduled on Friday, saying it needed to “determine whether or not Stop & Shop is truly ready to work with us.”
The union, which represents more than 1,100 meat seafood and deli and workers at Stop & Shop stores in the New York metro area, has been working on terms of a contract that was to have expired in October of 2011.
A union representative told SN Thursday that it planned to have additional negotiations with the Quincy, Mass.-based retailer but those meetings were not yet scheduled.
The union said it intended to hold a strike vote Monday. Stop & Shop officials were not available for comment.
