Walgreens acquires 120 Brookshire Grocery pharmacies

Walgreens has acquired 120 pharmacies from Brookshire Grocery Company. 

Brookshire, based in Tyler, Texas, released a statement today announcing the acquisition, which will impact the retailer’s pharmacies located in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. The sale also includes pharmacy customer prescription files and related pharmacy inventory. Most of the pharmacies will operate under the Walgreens name inside Brookshire Grocery locations.

According to the agreement, some Brookshire pharmacies will close, and those patient files will either be transferred to a local Brookshire pharmacy or a nearby Walgreens.
Eligible Brookshire employees will be offered jobs with Walgreens Boots Alliance, and customer prescriptions will be automatically transferred to the Northbrook, Ill., company’s database.
